Nowadays, young people barely call their friends on their phones, they mostly use text messages to communicate with them.
Some people think that text messages are very useful, because they're faster and cheaper than calling someone. There are many mobile phone applications that allow you to send text messages to anyone who has the same app, some examples are Whatsapp and Line. Almost every teenager who has a mobile phone uses text messages to communicate with their friends instead of calling. Text messages are so easy and fast to send and you can reply to them whenever you want to.
On the other hand, there are lots of people who prefer phone calls, because they think it's always better to communicate directly rather than hide yourself behind your mobile phone. Phone calls are good if you want to talk to someone who you don't talk a lot with, or when you need a fast reply to something. However, phone calls are being replaced by text messages little by little. There are also some mobile phone applications for phone calls, like Viber or Skype.
To sum up, I think that text messages are useful and they allow you to have conversations with people without needing them to inmediatly answer their phones. In the future, people will still use phone calls but only for once in a while, since text messages are getting more popular. What do you think?
